The Arms of the Command , as the Signal Corps are known, provide the systems to establish the links between the different levels in combat, in order to support the exercise of command and control.

In addition, this branch acts in the control of the electromagnetic spectrum, through the activities of Electronic Warfare, to prevent or hinder the communications of the enemy, to facilitate its own communications and to obtain information.

In the Cybernetic Area, it has the capacity to develop measures of protection and mitigation of attacks, coordinating and integrating efforts of the vectors of cyber defense.

                                                               ACTIVITIES DURING THE COURSE

In addition to the common all-courses instructions, which include, among other subjects, "Treinamento Físico Militar", "Instrução Geral" and"Comando, Chefia e Liderança", the students of Signal Corps Course have, at Escola de Sargentos das Armas, instructions specific to the branch:

. "Técnica Militar": in which the students have the first contact with the radio equipment that will be used in the activities performed by the Arms, as well as any necessary physical structure that must be had to maintain the communications system, either through wires or through propagation of waves;

. "Fundamento das Comunicações": it is the basic subject that teaches the students to know both the electrical part, fundamental to the energization of the electronic system used, and the part of how it is possible to establish the connections by electromagnetic waves;

. "Emprego das Comunicações": in this subject the students learn how Signal Corps planning works in support of other Arms, taking into account the peculiarities of each of them in the several types of operations.

In order to develop those contents, the students have instructions in the field, in classrooms, a room prepared to use radio equipment in large powered benches and a modern room of cybernetics.

                                                    PATRON OF SIGNAL CORPS

patrono rondon

Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon was born on May 5th, 1865, in Mimoso, near the city of Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso. Son of Cândido Mariano da Silva and Claudina de Freitas Evangelista da Silva, lost his father before his birth and his mother when he was two years old; he was, then, raised by his grandfather and an uncle, from whom he inherited and incorporated the surname " Rondon".

Very soon, Rondon aroused his character for the career of the Arms, entering Escola Militar da Praia Vermelha at the age of 16. In 1888 he was promoted to the rank of "alferes" (rank that corresponds, nowadays, to "aspirante-a-oficial").

During his lifetime, Rondon devoted himself to two main causes: the connection of the most distant parts of the Brazilian borders; the connection of "sertão" to the main urban centers and the integration between the indians and the civilians. Only one task or another would have been sufficient to justify Rondon's name in history. But this illustrious soldier went far beyond.

In the first venture, Rondon explored more than 50,000 kilometers of "sertão" and extended more than 2,000 kilometers of copper wire across the country, linking the most distant Brazilian parts through the communication by telegraph. As an indigenist, pacified tribes; studied the habits of the inhabitants from the places he had traveled; participated in the creation of legal measures to protect the forests. So, on September 7th, 1910, he was designated the director of "Fundação do Serviço de Proteção aos Índios", the precursor of the current "Fundação Nacional de Assistência ao Índio" - FUNAI, because of the much he had already accomplished and his moral and intellectual stature patented along his career .

In addition to these achievements, Rondon's expeditions also contributed to fifteen new rivers being included to our maps, as a result of their river explorations; "Museu Nacional" was enriched with twenty thousand copies of our "fauna" and "flora", duly charted; a huge area of five hundred thousand square kilometers was integrated into Brazilian lands; and a total of seventy volumes have been compiled containing reports on "Biologia, Geologia, Hidrografia" and on all aspects of previously unknown regions.

The recognition of Rondon's works extrapolated Brazil's borders. He had the glory of having his name written in solid gold letters in the "Livro da Sociedade de Geografia de Nova Iorque", as the explorer who deeply entered the tropical lands, alongside other immortals like Amundsen and Pearry, discoverers of the North and South Poles, and Charcot and Byrd, explorers who most deeply entered the Arctic and Antarctic lands.

At a solemn session at "Congresso Nacional", on May 5th, 1955, at the age of 90, Rondon received the insignia of "Marechal". He died in Rio de Janeiro on January 19th, 1958, at the age of 92.

His tenacity, dedication, self-denial and altruism, his outstanding personality attributes, earned him, undoubtedly, the title of Patron of Signal Corps of the Brazilian Army; and his birth date was taken as "Dia Nacional das Comunicações".

                                                          SONG OF SIGNAL CORPS

Written: Aloísio Pereira Pires
Music: Dobrado "Brasil Eterno", de Abdon Lyra

Pelas estradas sem fim,
Ou pelo campo caminha a glória
Os nossos fios, as nossas antenas
Transmitem essas vitórias.
Quando soa a metralha
Ou o ronco dos canhões
Nos céus da pátria ecoa
Teu nome Comunicações.

E, quando a vitória vier
Alguém falará no porvir:
Na paz, assim como na guerra
Teu lema é sempre servir.

Dentro das noites escuras
O teu trabalho silente será
E nessa mudez somente a bravura
Ao teu lado caminhará
Sempre estarás na vanguarda
E cumprirás do Comando as missões
Com o nome de Rondon,
Pulsando em nossos corações.

E, quando a vitória vier
Alguém falará no porvir:
Na paz, assim como na guerra
Teu lema é sempre servir.

Lyrics: André Marcelo Souza de Araújo (1º Ten Com Marcelo Araújo, 1993)

Music: Adaptação do dobrado "Os Quatro Tenentes", de José Macedo

Audaz comunicante, nobre guerreiro,
No fragor dos embates é sobranceiro
Na paz, assim como na guerra
Silente em seu trabalho, vence o perigo
Enfrenta sem temor o inimigo

Ligando a todos vai com vibração
Buscando a qualquer custo a integração
Seu brasão é o vetor azul e altaneiro
Audaz comunicante, nobre guerreiro

Vai... transmite a mensagem “Se preciso, vou morrer
Para nossa Pátria defender!”
