engenharia2

Engineering is the branch which supports mobility, countermobility and protection, characterizing itself as a multiplying factor of combat power.
Engineering supports the basic Arms, facilitating the deployment of friendly troops, launching bridges and portals, repairing roads, eliminating obstacles to progression and further hampering enemy movement. In an operation of transposition of water courses (obstacle of great wingspan) the maneuver is directly linked to Engineering. Still, in times of peace, it collaborates with national development building roads, railways, bridges, dams, barrages, artesian wells and countless other works.

                                                    PATRON OF ENGINEERING

patrono v cabrita

Ten Cel João Carlos de Villagran Cabrita

Born in December 1820, in Província Cisplatina, when it was a territory annexed to Brazil, João Carlos de Villagran Cabrita joined the Brazilian Army as Cadet. From an early age,  he was noted for its intellectual and technical-professional value; later to immortalize himself in the generations of engineers for his glorious deeds. He participated in the creation of the first "Unidade de Engenharia do Exército", heading with its members to Teatro de Operações da Guerra da Tríplice Aliança, in June of 1865. In the following year, as Major, Villagran assumed the command of "1° Batalhão de Engenharia". He was leading more than 900 men from it. It was in the dawn of April 10th, 1866, that he carried out one of the most memorable feats of our Military History. With his troops, he transposed the mighty Rio Paraná, in order to fight the opponent party in its own territory - a fact that had not yet occurred in that conflict - initiating, thus, the pioneering tradition of the "Arma Azul-turquesa". That fight was intense, but the effort was not in vain. The impeccable performance of the Brazilian Squadron and the fearlessness of Villagran Cabrita's soldiers made the victory imminent. It was seven o'clock in the morning when, at last, the musical notes of the battalion's trumpets filled the skies with the sounds of victory. A unfortunate situation, however, was about to happen: Villagran, after completing such mission, while writing the "Parte de Combate" and boarding a launch, was struck, at around 2 PM, by an artillery shrapnel which killed him at less than the age of 46. His brilliant career was interrupted, but a hero was not forgotten. In fairness, his immortality was registered with the choice of him as the Patron o fthe Arms of  Engineering, perpetuating his example and transmitting, over the times, his ideals of struggle and victory to the noble Engineers. April 10th is not the date of his birthday: it is rather the celebration of his birth into History. Nowadays, Engineers can proudly display their "Castelo Lendário" - a perpetual and sacred shelter of the traditions and deeds of their distinguished Patron.

                                                                              SONG OF ENGINEERING

Lyrics by: 2° Ten Aurélio de lyra Tavares
Music by: Cadete Hildo Rangel

Quer na paz, quer na guerra, a Engenharia
Fulgura, sobranceira, em nossa história
Arma sempre presente, apóia e guia
As outras Armas todas à vitória.

E é esteio, do Brasil, a Engenharia.

E é esteio, do Brasil, a Engenharia.
